For a real Ubud gem, pop into the green and gracious Puri Wulandari, a Bali boutique resort and spa. It is set some distance away from the road in lush paddy looking down over the Ayung River. The 34 thatch-roof pool villas are elegant and private and the gardens are a treat. The villas feature their own valley-edge plunge pools with stunning views. There is a nice spa too. Where most resorts prefer stone, the Puri Wulandari has chosen grass. Keep an eye on this one.

The district of Gianyar is the center of Balinese culture, rich in history and artifacts. Gianyar’s history is arguably the most fascinating in Bali.
The town of Gianyar itself is a small administration town, hone to one of the best preserved palaces on the island, but unfortunately closed to visitor.
Leaving Denpasar on the way to Ubud, the first village is Batubulan. Famous for its stone carvings, most of the stone sculptures you see around Bali will almost certainly come from Batubulan. These works are exhibited all along the main road. Batubulan also specializes in the Barong dance which is performance daily here. The dance symbolizes the never-ending battle between good and bad.

DO : 1.Take your time; If you find a piece that you like, put it on hold and go back for another look before buying. 2.Research; Browse the galleries and check out some exhibitions to get a feel for your taste 3.Buy what you like; Follow your heart. As long as you are drawn to a painting and as long as you like it, your money won’t be wasted. Remember, you are the one who has to look at it every day. 4.But from up and coming artists; Find quality pieces by Bali’s art school graduates, or new artists who haven’t been featured in an exhibition before and therefore still sell their work for a reasonable price.

The day is still faint when I was awakened by the twittering and chirping of wild birds. Though my eyes still drowsy, I forcefully pulled myself away from the cozy comfortable King size bed. The sweet bird calls are very inviting.
It’s true. When I pulled open my bedroom curtain, I could not believe my eyes upon seeing the mesmerizing scenery that immediately made me go for the door A thin fog gracing between the tops of canopy of the village forest at the ravine, as if welcoming me with a ‘good morning’.
I feel like I’m on the land in the sky. Perhaps this is the real beauty and serenity, I am actually at Puri Wulandari, a natural resort located on the ravine of Ayung valley in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali. About 100 meters below is the Ayung River, with its following crystal clear water along with huge rock.
